Update on Two New Fairhope Subdivisions

The Fairhope Times reports that two new Fairhope developments are moving forward, sparking mixed reactions from residents. Lennar Homes has received a ground disturbance permit for an 80-lot subdivision called Greenfields, located on 40 acres north of CR 32 on CR 13. The city of Fairhope will provide water and sewer services, with Baldwin EMC handling the electric, and the project will include infrastructure upgrades like a new water main. Meanwhile, a rezoning request for Legends at Point Clear, a mixed-use development with 131 residential units and commercial space, has stirred concerns from neighboring residents about traffic, drainage, and wetlands. Despite these objections, the planning commission approved the rezoning with a 35-foot height limit, and now it’s up to the city council to give the final nod.

Fairhope to get Heavy Rains from Tropical Storm Francine

Tropical Storm Francine formed this morning and is currently located about 480 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana, with winds of 50 mph. The storm is creeping north/northwest and could make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with 80 mph winds by Wednesday along the Louisiana coast. Expect heavy rains for Fairhope on Wednesday and Thursday totaling between 4-6 inches. Possible tornadoes, and high rip current risks will occur across Southeast Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle on both Wednesday and Thursday. We suggest following meteorologist James Spann and/or meteorologist Spinks Megginson for the latest on the storm.

Fairhope High Rings in No-Cellphone Rule

Gulf Coast Media reports that as the new school year kicks off, there’s a big change happening at Fairhope High School—no more cellphones in the classroom! Fairhope is leading the way in Baldwin County with a new initiative to lock up phones at the start of each class, and so far, it’s been a smooth transition. Other schools, like Robertsdale High, are jumping on board too, with plans to expand the policy county-wide by year’s end. With nationwide momentum behind these phone bans, it seems like students might be ready to focus more on learning—and less on texting!

Fairhope’s Long-Awaited Airport Industrial Park Finally Taking Off?

The Fairhope Times reports that during Monday’s city council meeting, Fairhope will consider applying for a $1 million SEEDS grant to help fund infrastructure for a 75-acre industrial park on the west side of the Fairhope Airport. This would add to the $3 million HUD grant already secured for streets, utilities, and drainage, though the entire project is estimated to require $5.5 million. Congressman Jerry Carl is assisting with the grant application, and the project aims to attract both aerospace and other industries to the site. The land was designated a state “Advantage Site” in 2014 but has seen limited interest due to a lack of infrastructure.

Quick News from Around Fairhope

Fairhope Faces : Meet Mike From Publix

“This produce department is my happy spot. It’s usually the first or second stop when a customer comes in. I want produce to be your best experience in the whole store. If you feel good here, the rest of your experience should be good.

I was a territory rep for a candy company for twenty years. They pulled the rug from underneath us and got rid of 300 sales people. My wife and I moved south to Daphne in 2022. This store is where I’ve gotten to know people. There’s a young woman who has breast cancer who comes in–I treat her like my daughter and give her a big hug every time I see her. But I treat everybody like family. It makes me feel good, too.”
