Fairhope Shows Kindness To Hurricane Refugees

A post by a couple from Crawfordville, Florida seeking refuge in Fairhope from Hurricane Helene brought over 280 comments including well wishes from Fairhope mayor Sherry Sullivan. The text of the post from Nancy Parker is below.

“My husband and I arrived to Fairhope yesterday. Our hometown of Crawfordville Florida is under mandatory evacuation due to the hurricane. We have noticed how kind the local residents are. We have enjoyed three meals at three different restaurants and the employees were all so friendly. We’ve stopped people and asked questions and we were greeted with smiles. Obviously this is an emotionally challenging situation for us. Not knowing what to expect when we are allowed to return home. But the kindness and the warm welcome we have experienced is sincerely making this situation bearable. Fairhope , be proud!❤️❤️ Also, 30 minutes after we first arrived to your beautiful community this was our view” (rainbow picture at pier above).

The Parker’s headed back this morning but left this post as a Thank You.

“Good morning Fairhope! My husband and I truly appreciate all of the kindness and most importantly all of the prayers. I wish we could respond to each of your comments. I had no idea my photo of the rainbow would get so much attention or that all of you kind people would reach out so warmly. We do believe in prayer and we believe that God heard your prayers for us. Literally the final hour before making landfall in our county the storm turned eastward and greatly reduced the impact to Wakulla county. Our home in Crawfordville never lost power or internet. We are so grateful and blessed way further than we deserve. We will be driving this morning in a lot of traffic so I don’t expect to be able to check Facebook often. Thank you all again. Fairhope is amazing and it is you, the residents that make it that way.”

Fairhope Doctor Saves Pickleball Player’s Life at Fairhope Rec Center

WKRG reports that a quick-thinking doctor and an automated external defibrillator (AED) came to the rescue when a man collapsed while playing pickleball at the Fairhope Recreation Center on Tuesday. Dr. Steven Witmer, who happened to be at the center, sprang into action after the man fell on the court, finding no pulse. With time being critical, he used the AED, delivering a shock that brought the man’s heart back to a regular rhythm within a minute. Thanks to the immediate response and the availability of the AED, the man was stabilized until paramedics arrived, highlighting the life-saving importance of quick action in emergencies.
