Fairhope’s Riley Leonard for the Win
Rick Karle shared: “He’s one win away from winning a national championship.
The “awe, shucks” Mayberry kid who America has fallen in love with can prove them wrong with one more win.
“What? The Riley Leonard kid who went to Fairhope High School (AL) and slipped past coaches like Nick Saban is a win away from leading Notre Dame to the promised land?”, they ask.
Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard grew up in the shadows of the Tide and the Tigers.
The Fairhope High School quarterback was also an accomplished basketball player - as a senior at FHS he was offered numerous college football and basketball scholarships.
Riley knows a thing or two about athleticism. His father Chad played college basketball, while his mother Heather taught phys-Ed. And when it came time to choose a college, Riley Leonard chose Duke University. He spent 3 years at Duke before transferring to Notre Dame.
Last night, Riley Leonard didn’t play his best game, but when the national semi-final was over, Riley had willed his team to a 27-24 win over Penn State.
And after the game? Riley made sure America knew he loves the Lord, saying this on national TV: “I just started trusting the Lord. I looked up and said, ‘Jesus, whatever your will is for my life I trust you 100 percent.’ I know this offense and this team trusted Jesus and His plan for this team.”
If you walked by Riley Leonard on the street, you might think he’s on his way to his office at Regions Bank.
But the hard cold truth is that Riley Leonard is on his way to the national championship game against Ohio State or Texas.
And the best part of the Riley Leonard story? Win or lose, Riley Leonard will be thanking the man upstairs for all the blessings he has received. You can bank on it.”
Plea for Help - for our own Mama Liz
Most of us have enjoyed the incredible home cooking from Mama Liz at some point - and now we can make a difference in her battle against cancer: https://www.gofundme.com/f/89445x-help-mama-liz-with-medical-expenses .
“When people ask who my favorite Souls story has been over the last nine years, I often answer, ‘Mama Liz.’ A tiny woman with a huge smile who cooked soul food with love in the corner of a gas station in Fairhope. During our interviews, I watched all kinds of people walk in and be greeted by a big hug from Liz, then tell her what was happening in their lives. She was Mama to a lot of folks who needed someone to care about them. She became that to me, too. When I had a bad day, I would stop by just to hear "Hello, my darlin" and get her hug. She loved my boys that way, too. She was the first story in the first Souls book because I wanted her smile to be the first thing readers saw.
Mama Liz has had a tough 2024. New management kicked her out of that corner restaurant she loved, and she had to leave her family of customers in Fairhope. She also found out she has cancer. The doctors just said it has taken over her body. She has helped so many people – here's a way for us to give back to her.
Thank you for caring about Mama Liz.” - Lynn Read More Here
