Fairhope Wants Your Feedback

We made it to Friday, Fairhope!

Be careful out there this morning in that thick fog that has settled over our city! Okay - now for a packed weekend line up. We may be small, but our Calendar of Events is BIG! Most of our residents agree that living in a small town has many perks - such as knowing your neighbors and the names and faces of our local leaders. Today we’ve gathered just a few of our favorite things to update you. However if we’ve missed anything, let us know so we can help spread the word.

First, your end of week laugh: Why was the fog always late? Because it mist the bus.

Now grab your hot tea or coffee and dive into this week’s updates! Be sure to share this with your friends and neighbors. If they subscribe at FairhopeNow.com (or click the big blue button below), you’ll be entered to win a $25 gift card to Kind Cafe! Just email us at [email protected] to let us know, and we’ll add your name to the raffle. Here’s to a great week ahead! – John Oldshue & Anne Dorman

Lace Up Your Shoes: Pirate Dash time is here

Tomorrow morning over 700 racers will take to the streets of Fairhope for the 10th annual Pirate Dash! This tradition has helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars for our local Fairhope Public Schools over the past several years. Not in the mood to run an entire 5K race? There is also a 1 mile fun run / walk that you are welcome to participate in tomorrow morning. And if cheering is more your style, we welcome banners, posters, and volunteers are still accepted too!

Be aware of these ROAD CLOSURES. The Fairhope Police shared this message: “Please be mindful of runners and anticipate some brief delays in traffic on Saturday morning due to the Pirate Dash. The 5K race starts at 8 a.m., followed by the Fun Run at 9 a.m.”

First Friday Art Walk Tonight

Tonight is our First Friday Art Walk at the Eastern Shore Art Center. Sponsored by Cardiology Associates and live music by Jay Megginson.

RETURNING EXHIBIT: “We Are Artists”
In recognition of Black History Month, curator Soynika Edwards-Bush has invited African American artists from the Mobile area to participate in this impactful exhibit.

RETURNING EXHIBIT: “Almost Human and Yet…”
Works by Paulette Dove. Biloxi Artist Paulette Dove is an oil painter drawn to the almost-human qualities of rabbit hares. “These creatures, with their expressive faces and movements; serve as symbols of emotion, vulnerability and instinct. Through my art, I use them to explore the blurred line between human and animal – where our shared connections to nature and each other become clear.”

NEW EXHIBIT: "Art for All." A free and inclusive arts education program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal of the program is to bring people of all abilities together to express their creativity and develop their skills in a variety of art mediums.

Exhibit in collaboration with Dauphin Island Sea Lab, University of Alabama and the United States National Science Foundation. Free admission. Donations welcomed. Refreshments served!
