Memorial Day on the Bay

Hey y’all! Butter my biscuit and pass the bug spray - summertime has sauntered back into Fairhope! The azaleas are showin’ off, the bay breeze is whisperin’ secrets through the Spanish moss, and every porch swing in town is gettin’ its seasonal workout.

Now before we get too carried away with watermelon slices and backyard barbecues, let’s take a moment to remember what truly makes this weekend special. Memorial Day isn’t just the unofficial start of summer - it’s a time to honor and remember the brave souls who gave everything for our freedoms. So while you're grillin’ and chillin’, take a second to tip your hat, raise a glass, or say a prayer for the heroes who made this all possible.

And now, your Friday Joke of the day: “How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one, but the lightbulb has to want to change.”

Mobile Baykeeper : Mud Dumping

The Fairhope Times reports that during a meeting at Fairhope Methodist Church last night, state Senator Chris Elliot looked on as citizens from Fairhope and all over the county expressed concerns about federal "mud-dumping" in Mobile Bay: an economical method being used to deepen the shipping channel. Representatives from Mobile Baykeeper urged those attending to contact their representatives in Congress to include additional funding in the new federal budget to dispose of the material in a more environmentally-friendly manner - and protect the local fishing industry. Memorial Day Celebration Monday

At the Fairhope Elks Lodge #1879 every year on Memorial Day, July 4th, & Labor Day we serve up a huge BBQ offering plates of chicken, ribs, or pulled pork complete with trimmings such as coleslaw, beans, & bread. We also have an onsite bake sale. Our plates are $18 each and we aim to start serving at 10:30 on Memorial Day! Community members are welcome to dine-in or carry-out and for anyone on the go we will also serve drive-thru style around the back of our building on the Gambino's parking lot side.

These events are a staple in our fundraising efforts each year and key to helping us support many benevolent causes such as Drug Awareness, Scholarships to local graduating seniors, Veterans Affairs and many many more! Don't wait too late, last year we started selling out of options by noon! Learn more here
