Fairhope Growth leads to Water Tower Needs: Federal Funds Sought Out
Fairhope is unique in that it uses an underground aquifer and water wells to secure its water supply and with recent growth the pumps struggle to keep up with all of the demand.
NBC 15 quoted Mayor Sherry Sullivan as saying: "We continue to up-size lines and add water wells. But you also have to add storage capacity. So we know that, eventually, north and south in our water territory, we're going to have to have water towers… And you also want to be able to allow your wells time to rest,” she explains. “You know, you don't want to have your pumps running continuously. You want to have that storage capacity."
Mayor Sherry Sullivan said that Fairhope is working with U.S. Senator Katie Britt and Congressman Jerry Carl to secure $7M dollars of federal funds for the water tower project. If approved, funds for the 2 new towers would come from the Federal Community Development Fund.
Fairhope Glass Recycling Pilot
Bring your glass! Now through October 4th glass that you bring to the recycling center at 555 S. Section St. will be crushed and turned into concrete for Flying Creek Nature Preserve! This is a unique project from Osprey Initiative and Thompson Engineering. If you are a Fairhope resident and have a City dump sticker you can put your glass into the glass bins.
If you are in the Fairhope City limits, but do not receive City trash pickup, the Osprey Initiative will be set up at the Fairhope Farmer’s Market on Thursdays Sept 19th and 26th.
The Osprey Initiative thanks My Place, The Bone and Barrel, and The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection for participating in this pilot project. If you are a restaurant and want to participate or if you have general questions, please reach out to Nicole Love at [email protected]
