The Fairhope Times reports that during it’s Monday meeting (5pm Monday August 19) the Fairhope Board of Adjustments will review a proposal for a three-story, mixed-use building at the old Fairhope Hardware site on 301 Fairhope Avenue, featuring a 27-room hotel, rooftop terrace, restaurant, and medical spa. However, city planning staff have recommended the board deny the request, citing concerns about the project’s intensity and its strain on downtown infrastructure, especially parking. An alternative option being considered is to delay the decision to allow time for resolving these issues. Read more details from The Fairhope Times by clicking here.

Go Fund Me setup For Fairhope Police Officer’s Family

From the GoFundMe Page: On August 6, 2024, our family lost someone that cannot be replaced. Captain John Hamrick was a substantial member of his family and the Fairhope community. John was caring, selfless, and most of all fun; you always knew it would be a good time if he was around. He would do anything for anybody without thinking twice.

Throughout his lifetime and years of service, he made huge impacts on people’s lives inside and outside of his family because everyone was family to him. The world lost an amazing man and without him, we don’t know how to carry on. The last thing we want is for his loving family, Leslie, Sydney, and Nash, to worry about how they are going to make it through this tragedy financially when they are struggling to make it through emotionally and mentally. Click here to visit the GoFundMe page and help out if you feel inclined.

Fairhope Scores $1.3 Million for Flying Creek Phase II

The City of Fairhope just hit the jackpot, securing over $1.3 million from the State of Alabama’s GoMESA Projects to take the Flying Creek Nature Preserve to the next level! 🙌 With Phase II in the works, Fairhope isn’t just planning to add a few extra picnic tables—oh no, they’re diving into environmental education, sprucing up sewer and stormwater systems, and giving water quality a much-needed glow-up. Plus, the city is making sure everyone has top-notch access to all the natural beauty Flying Creek has to offer. So, residents better get their hiking boots ready because hopefully Flying Creek is about to become one of the crown jewel of Fairhope’s great outdoors.

Fairhope Water Situation Update

Lots of dust flying as Fairhope’s been surfing a wave of water woes this week, all thanks to a pesky mechanical hiccup in well #4 that sidelined a cool million gallons of water. Since Monday, the city’s been giving us all the nudge to tighten the taps under the mandatory Phase 3 of the water conservation plan—yep, that’s the one where watering your lawn is about as forbidden as sneaking candy into the movie theater. But hey, don’t go all high and dry just yet! There’s some light at the end of the tunnel (or should we say, water in the well?). A temporary pump was installed on Wednesday, and if all goes well, it should be producing water by the weekend. Mother Nature even decided to pitch in with a loud and proud thunderstorm dropping between ½ inch to 2 inches around town on late Wednesday afternoon. If this new pump does its thing and Mother Nature keeps playing nice, we might just downgrade to a more relaxed, voluntary Phase 2 by Monday. Fingers crossed, Fairhope!

Emmy’s Thrift Shop Grand Re-opening

Emmy’s Thrift Shop, the little store with a big heart, is getting a fresh new look and reopening this Saturday after a major expansion! After being closed for three weeks, the store is back and better than ever, doubling its space and ready to meet the pent-up demand. Emmy’s, which is actually short for Ecumenical Ministries Incorporated, uses all its profits from donations to support charity efforts like the food pantry, home repair, and Meals on Wheels. The shop’s been around for about 30 years, so it was definitely time for a facelift! Contractors are putting on the finishing touches, and the team is busy sprucing things up for the grand reopening. There should now be extra room and the chance to put out more great finds. So, if you love a good bargain and want to support a good cause, head over to Emmy’s this Saturday at 10 a.m. It’s going to be a fun day of treasure hunting, with a brand-new space to explore! Check their Facebook page here for possible bargains.
