Hermit’s Hut Move Cost Increases to
$300K -$400K

The Fairhope Times reports that the estimated cost to safely move the hermit’s hut has increased to between $300,000 and $400,000, largely due to challenges such as preserving nearby trees and clearing obstacles along the route. Some of the hut’s underground portions may need to be left behind and reconstructed at the new site in the Flying Creek Nature Preserve. A private non-profit plans to fundraise for the project since city funds cannot be used. The Single Tax Corporation may potentially contribute, though this remains uncertain.
Section Street Repair Work is Complete
The south bound and north bound lanes on Section street are now open. Work began January 2 on Section Street in Fairhope after a portion of sidewalk washed out Dec. 28 after 5-9 inches of rain. City officials rapidly set a repair plan in motion, estimating a two-week completion time and a cost exceeding $700,000. It looks like the estimate on repair was right on time.

For Your Stories !
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Our Southern Souls, and they’re on a mission to preserve and share the incredible stories that shape our history and culture before they’re lost to time. They need your help in finding some special people to feature—especially seniors who are 90 or older (or close to it), veterans or folks who served in the Vietnam War, and anyone who has had a memorable encounter with Elvis! So many of us in the South have a story or two about crossing paths with the King.
