Meeting Tonight for Public Input on Parks and Recreation
The City of Fairhope is holding a Recreation Meeting and Public Input Meeting tonight, January 15 at 5:15 PM, in the Council Chambers at 161 N Section Street. City officials are conducting a feasibility study to enhance local parks and recreation facilities and invite residents to share their input. Attendees can learn more about the study’s goals and discuss potential improvements to community spaces. Residents are also encouraged to complete a feasibility survey to help shape the future of Fairhope’s parks and recreational offerings.
Section Street Repair Work is Almost Done
The south bound lane on Section street is now open. Northbound is expected to open soon. Work began January 2 on Section Street in Fairhope after a portion of sidewalk washed out Dec. 28 after 5-9 inches of rain. City officials rapidly set a repair plan in motion, estimating a two-week completion time and a cost exceeding $700,000. It looks like the estimate on repair was right on time.
Our Southern Souls is Looking For Your Stories !
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Our Southern Souls, and they’re on a mission to preserve and share the incredible stories that shape our history and culture before they’re lost to time. They need your help in finding some special people to feature—especially seniors who are 90 or older (or close to it), veterans or folks who served in the Vietnam War, and anyone who has had a memorable encounter with Elvis! So many of us in the South have a story or two about crossing paths with the King.

Fairhope Pier Work Continues as Memorial Benches are Removed
The work at the Fairhope Pier is continuing. Some people have expressed concern as workers removed several memorial benches from Municipal Park as part of the larger renovation project aimed at upgrading old equipment and installing newer benches. Residents who dedicated benches in memory of loved ones expressed concern about not receiving prior notice and questioned the fate of the original memorials. The city plans to honor those previously commemorated by including their names on a placard once renovations are complete.
