Fairhope Woman Scammed Out of $100K, Georgia Man Arrested

WKRG reports that a Georgia man was arrested recently in Baldwin County after an investigation revealed that a local woman was scammed out of more than $100,000. The Fairhope Police Department, working alongside the FBI, discovered that the woman fell victim to fraud after purchasing a new vehicle and noticing charges for an anti-theft service. Upon researching the company, she was led to a fake website that connected her to scammers. They convinced her that they had accidentally deposited $100,000 into her account and used scare tactics to pressure her into returning the funds. The scammers gained access to her personal banking information, installed software on her devices, and manipulated her into withdrawing cash and meeting them in a local parking lot, eventually collecting the money directly from her home.
