Hurricane Milton to make landfall Late Wednesday or Early Thursday

This image from 10AM today shows Hurriane Milton’s cone of uncertainty from the National Hurricane Center. Unfortunately, confidence is high that Milton will be a dangerous, category 3 or 4 hurricane at landfall Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. The most likely areas to be impacted include Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Clearwater, Largo, Longboat Key, Bradenton, Ruskin, Siesta Key. Inland areas near Lakeland and Orlando could have potentially extreme effects as well. Keep updated here with meteorologist Spinks Megginson .

Our Southern Souls: Cloud Mountain Coffee

Recently I drove up Scenic 98 to check out the new coffee shop in Old Towne Daphne because I am a coffee fiend. Not only was it a cozy little shop, my hot oatmilk cappuccino was perfect! Then I spotted this story in Our Southern Souls and wanted to share with you all. Be sure to stop by Cloud Mountain soon too, Anne D.

Here is a snippet from Lynn Oldshue’s post:

Story update. I interviewed Stephanie five years ago about her work with Konbit Haiti. She and her husband, Ryan, wanted to do more and dreamed of opening a coffee shop using Haitian coffee beans to help the Haitians. They finally made that dream come true with Cloud Mountain Coffee in Daphne.

“We met Gran when we were living in Haiti. She's the grandmother to one of our Konbit co-founders, but she's Gran to everyone. She hiked in the mountains behind our house every Sunday, grabbing a handful of beans and roasting them over charcoal. Her coffee was dark and smooth. We started dreaming of opening a coffee shop with Haitian beans when we moved back to Daphne, but it took us a long time to open.

The name Cloud Mountain came from the mountains behind our house in Haiti. It was always cloudy. Some people want to be connected to the world so we are making it easy with a simple cup of coffee connected to fair trade. We want to remind people that so many good things come from other countries. The pictures of the farmers are on our wall. They can feed their families, and the money pours into the local economy.

Times are much harder now in Haiti. We still have Konbit Haiti–a group of Haitian and Christian community development partners working to develop families and communities. 2020 was the last time we were in Haiti. We have a staff of about fifty Haitians who are anxious to keep working and doing something to help their country. We just finished a six-week camp to feed kids twice a day and give them a safe place to play. We had more than 400 kids–the most we’ve ever had.

Some people want to be connected to the world and find ways to help. We are making it easy with a simple cup of coffee connected to fair trade or jewelry and gifts made by Haitians. We want to remind people that so many good things come from other countries.” Stephanie

October Sunsets: Fairhope Style

This time of year brings a special kind of beauty along Mobile Bay when the air becomes crisp and the skies seem to stretch out above. As the sun begins to dip, whether you're by the serene waters of Mobile Bay, driving past a Fairhope farm, or just loading your groceries at the Piggly Wiggly, you can’t help but pause and admire the sunset. Hues of pink, orange, and violet melt together, painting the horizon. Down at our beautiful parks the light reflects on the bay. There's something magical about the variety of sunset photos we see shared on Fairhope Now this time of year.

At home, Aria is the epitome of happiness. She loves curling up in her favorite sunny spot, soaking up the rays while keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings. Her playful side shines through during playtime, where she eagerly engages in games of fetch and tug-of-war. Aria thrives on companionship, whether it's with her human friends or other furry pals. This loving lady is a perfect blend of energy and calm, making her a joy to be around and a cherished member of her family.
