Fairhope Winter Weather Warning
A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for Fairhope and all of coastal Alabama.
A rare and possibly record breaking winter storm is set to impact Baldwin County, Fairhope, and Mobile starting Tuesday morning, with significant snow accumulations expected. Temperatures today will peak in the upper 30s, with sunshine offering little warmth ahead of tonight’s plunge into the 20s. The snow is expected to begin as early as 9 AM Tuesday, intensifying between 11 AM and 8 PM. In Mobile and Baldwin counties, snowfall totals are forecasted to range between 2 to 4 inches, with the potential for higher amounts if heavier snow bands develop. The heaviest snow totals may actually be along the immediate coast and surrounding area in places like Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Foley and Fairhope. This would make it one of the most significant snow events in decades, as Mobile and Fairhope have not seen more than 2 inches of snow since the “Blizzard of ’93” in March 1993, and more than 3 inches since February 1973. The all-time record snowfall for Mobile was 6 inches, recorded in February 1895.
Extreme cold will amplify the storm’s impacts, with wind chills dipping into the low teens Tuesday morning. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly as precipitation begins, with icy and snow-covered surfaces persisting into Wednesday morning. Residents are advised to avoid travel once the storm starts and to stay home until conditions improve. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads will be particularly hazardous.
Lingering effects from the storm could extend into Thursday morning due to refreezing overnight, though daytime highs will climb into the 40s later this week. A significant warm-up is expected by the weekend, with highs in the mid-60s providing a welcome reprieve from the cold. For now, however, Fairhope, Baldwin County, and Mobile residents should prepare for this rare winter event, stay updated on changing forecasts, and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during what could be a historically significant snowstorm.
Martin Luther King Jr Holiday Today
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day serves as a reminder of the struggle for racial equality, justice, and unity in the United States. Celebrated annually on the third Monday of January, today honors Dr. King's transformative leadership in the civil rights movement, his commitment to nonviolent activism, and his dream of a society where people are judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. It is both a day of reflection on past progress and a call to action to continue addressing systemic inequalities, fostering dialogue, and building a more inclusive future.

Souls is Looking For Your Stories
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Our Southern Souls, and they’re on a mission to preserve and share the incredible stories that shape our history and culture before they’re lost to time. They need your help in finding some special people to feature—especially seniors who are 90 or older (or close to it), veterans or folks who served in the Vietnam War, and anyone who has had a memorable encounter with Elvis! So many of us in the South have a story or two about crossing paths with the King.
