The Fairhope Times reports that The Fairhope Single Tax Corporation (FSTC) has pledged $184,500—half of the $369,000 needed—to relocate the fragile hermit’s hut from Parker Road to the new Flying Creek Nature Park, just a quarter mile away. The structure’s delicacy and obstacles along the route, such as low-hanging trees and wires, complicate the move, which is why the cost is so high. This pledge is contingent upon the community raising the remaining half, making public support essential. The FSTC, which uses rent income from leased properties to fund community projects, emphasizes that the relocation will only proceed once all funds are secured. Tax-deductible donations can be made online or by mail, and all contributions will go toward the City of Fairhope’s efforts to move the historic structure.

Fishing License Compromise Reached for Jubilee
WALA Fox 10 reports that a new compromise allows people to legally harvest sea life during jubilees on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay without a fishing license, as long as they use only bare hands or a handheld dipnet and stay within species limits. Jubilees, rare events where oxygen-deprived water drives fish and crustaceans to shore, have long been a treasured community tradition. Recent concerns over enforcement led to discussions between State Representative Matt Simpson and Conservation Commissioner Chris Blankenship, who reached an agreement to preserve the event’s accessibility without requiring legislation. The decision was welcomed by locals as a balanced approach that maintains tradition while respecting conservation efforts.

Gulf Coast Media reports that the Fairhope Social Club, a new restaurant by Jessica Barnhill of Rae’s Kitchen and partners Drew Burroughs and Noah Matthews, is set to open soon at 14 N. Church St. in downtown Fairhope. Described as a casual, family-friendly eatery with a modern twist, it will feature creative menu items like charcuterie nachos, curly fry salad, and specialty cocktails. The restaurant plans to stay open later than Rae’s Kitchen and aims to officially open some time in April following a soft launch.
