Fairhope Hotel Plans Hit Parking Snag
On Monday the Fairhope Board of Adjustments took a closer look at a proposal to convert the old Fairhope Hardware building into a 27-room hotel with a med spa, restaurant and rooftop terrace. The applicants made a case that their project would breathe new life into the area and blend seamlessly with neighboring businesses. However, concerns about parking threw a wrench in the works. The Board wasn’t convinced that relying on on-street parking and a nearby parking garage would be enough to handle the hotel’s needs. They also wanted more details on the landscaping plans to ensure that any parking areas would be both well-maintained and visually appealing. After some discussion, the applicants agreed to go back to the drawing board and return with a plan that better addresses these concerns possibly in October.
Kacie Hardman honored as Governor’s Conservation Educator of the Year
Kacie Hardman with her mother and mother in law
Kacie Hardman shared “This award is an honor and testament to all the support that is behind this program. The Pelican’s Nest Science Lab gives Baldwin County students ownership to our amazing estuary. In return they are growing up having a deeper understanding of this ecosystem, a voice in the future impact and most importantly a love for their home.
I would like to thank the Baldwin County Board of Education and the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation for their partnership that gives every student a connection to local relevance in order to understand global relevance. As the educator of the Pelican’s Nest, I am blessed to be the one that opens up a new sense of wonder for each child!”
