The Fairhope Coffee Game is Strong

On Tuesday morning a banner plane soared over Hwy 98 in Fairhope, carrying a message that framed the battle as a classic "David vs. Goliath" struggle. This unique approach to gain attention comes as Starbucks has expanded along the Eastern Shore, opening two new locations off Highway 98 this year.

William Hanes, owner of Fairhope’s Provision and also the Provision on the Fly, is the mastermind behind the banner plane. He believes supporting local businesses is key to maintaining the town’s charm. Hanes feels fortunate and grateful that Fairhope is a town that strongly supports local businesses. Although there are several local coffee options, the relationships appear positive among these competitors and regular customers can be observed each of them. The future of Fairhope Starbucks is unknown, but there is no doubt about it - Fairhope has a strong community that supports small businesses.

Local Efforts to Support those impacted by Hurricane Helene

Local organizations are joining forces to launch a community-wide initiative to support those affected by Hurricane Helene. Click here to see all of the EIGHT Fairhope spots for drop off!

For those wishing to contribute, the Fairhope Police Department is collecting items:

  • Bottled water and tarps. Ready-to-eat food items (individually wrapped snacks, canned meats, nut butters, crackers, granola bars, dried fruits). Diapers, wipes, and baby formula. Hygiene products: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, combs, hairbrushes, shampoo, feminine hygiene items, hand sanitizer, and can openers. Cleaning supplies: rags, mops, brooms, scrub brushes, laundry detergent, disinfectants, and plastic totes for salvaged belongings, and Pet food.

If you prefer not to donate items, gift cards (Visa or Mastercard) are also welcome to help cover fuel or other essential needs. Please do not donate clothing.

The planning will also cover provisions for feeding volunteers and clean-up crews. The Fairhope Police Dept stated that it is crucial that we coordinate through State volunteer organizations to ensure donations are delivered to the right locations at the right time. Baldwin County's Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) will work closely with other VOAD groups in the affected areas to facilitate this.

Fairhope Adoptable Pets: Meet Angel

Meet Angel, a petite 1.5-year-old American Staffordshire who embodies resilience, kindness, and unwavering trust. This beautiful charcoal grey and white girl has already faced more challenges than many of us will in a lifetime. Abandoned and found with a severely embedded collar, Angel's journey began with pain and suffering, but it has transformed into a story of remarkable courage and healing.

Despite the excruciating discomfort from her embedded collar, which required surgery to remove, Angel never lost her gentle spirit. Undergoing both oral and topical antibiotics, as well as twice-daily hydrotherapy treatments, she faced each step with patience that seemed to defy her young age. Even through her shyness, Angel's trust in her caregivers and her ability to remain kind, even in the midst of pain, is a testament to the incredible resilience and forgiveness of the American Staffordshire breed.

Angel's story is one of hope and recovery. She has shown that, no matter how difficult her past was, love and care can heal even the deepest wounds. Now, as she continues to thrive, Angel is looking for a forever home where her sweet, trusting nature will be cherished and her resilience celebrated. If you're ready to offer a loving home to a dog who truly exemplifies the best of what it means to be an American Staffordshire, Angel is waiting to show you the boundless capacity of her heart.
