Breaking News: Fairhope Water Restrictions Lifted

Fairhope is lifting all water restrictions. A new temporary pump was installed over the weekend and is now pumping 1 million gallons. Mother nature also pitched in with 2-3 inches of rain over the last week to help reduce demand. Fairhope is still asking residents to irrigate plants overnight between midnight and 4am when water demand is less. Listen to Mayor Sherry Sullivan announce the news.

Fairhope’s Airport Academy Aviation Program Leaving

Aerospace vocational training at Fairhope’s Airport Academy is soaring to a new location, leaving its home at the airport entrance road. The program will now be offered at Baldwin Preparatory Academy in Loxley, while the Fairhope campus shifts its focus to the Alabama FAME apprenticeship program for adult students. Despite this change, other vocational training like welding and electrical courses will continue at the Airport Academy. More details from The Fairhope Times.

Mobile Baykeeper Town Hall Meeting on Federal Mud Dumping

The Corps of Engineers has a plan to dump 90 million cubic yards of sediment into Mobile Bay over the next 20 years, and Mobile Baykeepers wants to hear what you think about it. Head over to Fairhope United Methodist Church at 6 PM on Tuesday, August 20 to learn more and have your say at their town hall meeting.

The Fairhope Times broke the story of a Hotel/Restaurant proposal for the old Fairhope Hardware store and the reactions online were swift on the Fairhope Now Facebook group with over 300 comments. Examples included - “Why do these people keep proposing ugly hotels that don’t remotely match the vibe of the town?”, “Sort of suggests to me how Fairhope might look if a flying saucer landed on that corner and colonized!” and “It wouldn’t matter what is proposed for that corner and to replace a clearly rotting building; people will complain.” Click thru to see more of the debate.

Fairhope Faces: Spookie Dookie

Rick Rick and Hottie (Rick Winsett and Holley Wade)

Holley: “Only one person can have a ‘poopie day,’ and that’s me. I dressed up as Spookie Dookie a month ago. Now, if I’m having a bad day, I put on this costume and ride around Fairhope in my golf cart with Rick Rick, handing out poop stickers and telling people to have an ‘uncrappy day.’ Making people laugh feels so good we kept doing it. I laugh at myself and go home with a better attitude.

Rick: “We’re putting an outhouse on her poop mobile.”
